Exploring the Great White North: Canada Visit Visa Requirements for UAE Residents

Picture this: You’re standing by the breathtaking Niagara Falls, mist kissing your face, or perhaps skiing down the snowy slopes of Whistler. Canada beckons with endless adventures in its vast landscapes and vibrant cities. But before you can start packing your bags, there’s one thing you need first: a visit visa. If you’re a UAE resident, navigating the visa requirements might seem a bit daunting, but let’s not worry – we have you covered. Let’s go into the nitty-gritty and make sure your journey to Canada starts on the right note.

  1. Understanding the Visa Requirements

First things first: Do you need a visa? Yes, as a UAE resident, you’ll need a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) to visit Canada. This visa is for tourists, business visitors, and those visiting family or friends for short stays – usually less than six months.

  1. Types of Visitor Visas

Before you get started, it’s helpful to know that there are two main types of TRVs:

Single Entry Visa: You can enter Canada only once during the visa’s validity period.

Multiple Entry Visa: You can come and go from Canada as many times as you want, so long as the visa is valid. Most applicants are automatically considered for a multiple-entry visa unless they specify otherwise.

  1. Preparing Your Application

To make it easier to submit your application, you will be required to provide quite a number of documents and details. Here’s how to go about it, step by step:

Step 1: List of Documents

Application Form: IMM 5257. You will be using this as your main form for filling out your application. There is a readily available version online on the IRCC website.
Passport. Your passport has to be valid and have enough blank pages left. You must also provide photocopies of your bio-data page.

Photographs: Two recent passport-sized photos are required. The photos have to adhere to certain criteria; hence, ensure you follow the guidelines as indicated by IRCC.

Proof of Funds: Provide evidence that you have enough money to cover all your expenses in the host country. The requirements may include bank statements, pay stubs, or a letter from the employer.

Travel Itinerary: The travel plans are also important and include flight booking, if done, and accommodation reservations.

Purpose of Visit: Clearly state the reason for your visit. Are you visiting for tourism, to visit family or friends, or on a business trip?

Ties to UAE: Demonstrate your strong ties to the UAE in the form of employment, owning property, or family obligations to ensure that you will return upon completion of your visit.

Step 2: Online Application

You can submit your application online through the IRCC website. Create an account, complete the necessary forms, upload your documents, and pay the application fee. Online submission is often faster and more convenient.

Step 3: Pay the Application Fee

The fee for a TRV is typically around CAD 100. Payment can be made online, and make sure to keep the receipt as proof of payment.

  1. Biometrics

Canada requires most visa applicants to provide biometrics, which includes fingerprints and a photo. Here’s what you need to know:

Biometrics Appointment: After you submit your application and pay the fee, you will receive a Biometrics Instruction Letter. This letter will help you schedule an appointment at a designated Biometrics Collection Service Point.

Fee: The biometrics fee is approximately CAD 85, in addition to the visa application fee.

  1. Additional Requirements

In some instances, you may be required to undergo a medical exam, especially if you intend to stay in Canada for more than six months or work in certain professions. IRCC will advise if a medical exam is required.

  1. Processing Time

This can take a bit of processing time, but generally around 14 to 30 days in Canada for a visit visa from the UAE. One should thus plan ahead and apply well before the date one wants to travel to avoid undue stress at the last moment.

  1. Interview

While interviews are not always required, you might be asked to attend one at the visa office. You should be ready to answer questions about your travel plans, ties to the UAE, and the reason for visiting Canada.

  1. Receiving the Decision

Once your application is processed, you will receive a decision. If your visa is approved, you will get your passport back with the visa sticker. If it is denied, you will be given an explanation. Do not be discouraged if you are not successful the first time-you can reapply with additional information or when circumstances change.

  1. Preparing for Your Trip

With your visa in hand, it is now time to prepare for your Canadian adventure:

Travel Insurance: This is not required but very advisable to be covered in case of any medical or travel-related problems.

Customs and Immigration: When you arrive in Canada, you will have to pass through customs and immigration. You should be prepared to present your passport, visa, and supporting documents. The border officer might ask you a few questions to verify your travel plans.

  1. Have a good time in Canada

Now that you’ve navigated the visa process, it’s time to enjoy your Canadian adventure! Whether you’re exploring the bustling cities, taking in the stunning natural landscapes, or experiencing the rich culture, Canada has something for everyone. Don’t forget to try some poutine, visit a hockey game, and take plenty of photos to capture your memories.

Applying for a visit visa to Canada from the UAE could look intimidating at a glance, but well-prepared and with the right information, the whole process can seem quite smooth and less stressful. Safe travels and enjoy every moment of your Canadian journey! ????✈️????
