Embarking on a Canadian Adventure: How to Get Your Visit Visa from the UAE

Who knows? Maybe the fantasy of revelling in the vibrant energy of Toronto, the fresh mountain air of the Canadian Rockies, or diving into the cultural tapestry of Montreal beckons you. If this is your dream and you live in the UAE, then getting a visit visa is your golden ticket to Canada. Let’s take it down step by step, doing it in a way that’s easy to understand and follow.

  1. Do You Need a Visa?

The first thing to discuss would be the need to apply for a visa when visiting Canada. In general, for UAE residents, the answer is always positive. You will have to apply for the Temporary Resident Visa, which is popularly known as a visitor visa, prior to entering Canada.

  1. Types of Visitor Visas

Before following the application process, you should also know that there are two types of TRVs.

Single Entry Visa: You can enter Canada only once within the validity period of the visa.

Multiple Entry Visa: You can come and go from Canada as often as you like, provided the visa is valid. Most applicants are automatically considered for multiple-entry visas unless otherwise specified.

  1. Starting Your Application

To start your application, you need to collect all the necessary documents and apply for the visa. Here is how you can do it step by step:

Step 1: Collect Necessary Documents

Application Form: Fill up the IMM 5257 form, which is the Application for Visitor Visa. You can get this form on the official Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website.

Passport: Your passport has to be valid and have a minimum of one blank page for visa stamp. You will need to attach photocopy of your passport bio-data page.

Photographs: Take two recent photos that are required to be a passport size in accordance with specifications provided by the IRCC

Proof of Funds: Demonstrate that you are financially capable and can sustain your stay. Evidence may include the bank statements, pay stubs, or any letter from an employer.

Travel Itinerary: Provide travel plan details including if you have confirmed flight reservations or accommodation bookings

Purpose of visit: Why you are traveling to Canada? It is tourism? To visit a family member/friend? Participating in conference?

Ties to UAE: Show that you have good reasons to be living in the UAE and that you will return here after your trip. Examples can include: Employment letter; tenancy documents with property ownership proofs; or obligations to family back in the UAE.

Step 2: Submit Your Application

You can submit your application online through the IRCC website or in person at the nearest Visa Application Center (VAC). For online applications, you’ll need to create an account on the IRCC portal, upload your documents, and pay the application fee.

Step 3: Pay the Application Fee

The fee for a TRV is usually around CAD 100. You can pay it online on the IRCC portal or at a VAC if you are submitting an application in person. Retain your receipt as proof of payment.

  1. Biometrics and Additional Requirements
Biometrics – most applicants are required to give biometrics, which is actually a fingerprint and a picture. Here is what you need to do about that:

Biometrics Appointment: After submitting your application and paying the fee, you will receive a Biometrics Instruction Letter. This letter will guide you on how to book an appointment at a designated Biometrics Collection Service Point.

Fee: The biometrics fee is usually around CAD 85. This fee is in addition to the visa application fee.

In some cases, you may also be required to undergo a medical exam, especially if you intend to stay in Canada for more than six months or work in certain occupations. If this applies to you, IRCC will provide instructions on how to proceed.

  1. Processing Time

This might take 14 to 30 days for processing for a visit visa to Canada from the UAE. It is highly recommended to submit the application ahead of the proposed travel date as there might be some delay on the part of the processing centers.

  1. Decision

Once your application has been processed, you will hear back with a decision. When your visa has been approved, your passport will be stamped to indicate the issuing of the visa. If the visa is declined, you’ll be given reasons for the declination. Failure the first time is not an issue; there is always time to reapply with more details.

  1. Preparing Your Trip

Having received your visa, it’s now time to prepare for the trip to Canada:

Travel Insurance: While not mandatory, it’s advisable to have travel insurance to protect you against unexpected medical or travel-related issues.

Customs and Immigration: As you arrive in Canada, you will pass through customs and immigration. Be prepared to present your passport, visa, and other supporting documents. The border officer may ask a few questions about your travel plans.

  1. Enjoy Your Canadian Adventure

Now that you’ve navigated the visa process, it’s time to enjoy your Canadian adventure. From the bustling cities to the serene natural landscapes, Canada offers something for everyone. Don’t forget to try some poutine, visit a hockey game, and take plenty of photos to capture your memories.

Appropriate preparation for a visit visa application for a Canada tour from the UAE makes it look less daunting than it actually is. Travel to Canada safely and enjoy every moment of your Canadian adventure! ????✈️????
